The Public-to-Private Power Transition Starts Here
With over 15 years of experience in Utilities Resource Planning, Rates, Policy and Private Equity, Matt has navigated the complexities of the Power and Utilities Sector. His most recent venture at an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) firm has helped him truly understand the cost of energy projects and project execution.
Matt's background is deeply rooted in energy, operations and financial modeling, with a strong focus on regulatory policy and strategy. He has been involved in leading electric rate cases and transmission formula rate filings across five (5) different RTOs, updating long term Integrated Resource Plans, modernizing power trading and load management applications, and structuring mergers, acquisitions, and origination deals. Working with multiple energy startups and a globally renowned private equity firm has given him unique insights into market strategies and the success factors needed in the startup world to exit at a high multiple.
Within a highly regulated regional power market, Matt has led pioneering efforts that help Industrial Users access the benefits of the MISO wholesale power market. He has also served as an expert witness for Fortune 500 industrial clients in electric rate cases, advocating for their rights at the state level by challenging discriminatory practices and at the federal level by helping ensure protections under the Federal Power Act and PURPA are upheld.
Michael has over 15 years of experience advising public utilities and Fortune 500 industrial clients on energy strategy, rate design, capital projects and regulatory matters. He has led advanced financial analyses for $100M+ utility asset acquisitions and served as an expert witness in multiple electric rate cases, giving him a rare perspective on both customer needs and utility operations.
After several years with a global consulting firm, he launched an independent practice focused on behind-the-meter generation, regulatory navigation, and innovative financing solutions for industrial clients. This work positioned him to identify the market shift now underway: rising electricity rates and ongoing transmission investments are pushing manufacturers to seek energy independence.
As co-founder of Offtake Energy, he is developing turnkey financial and operational solutions that deliver 20%+ cost savings for industrial customers through onsite generation.
He earned his degree in Accounting from Washington University in St. Louis, is a former CPA, and is a U.S. Army veteran of the Iraq Campaign.
